Forklift Steering Valve - A valve is a device that controls the flow of a fluid like for example slurries, fluidized gases or regular gases, liquids, by partially obstructing, opening or closing some passageways. Valves are normally pipe fittings but are commonly discussed as a separate category. In instances where an open valve is concerned, fluid flows in a direction from higher to lower pressure.

Valves are used in many applications like for example residential, transport, commercial, military and industrial businesses. Some of the major trades which depend on valves comprise the chemical manufacturing, power generation, water reticulation, sewerage, oil and gas sector and mining.

Most valves being utilized in daily activities are plumbing valves, that are used in taps for tap water. Several popular valves include types fitted to washing machines and dishwashers, gas control valves on cookers, valves within car engines and safety devices fitted to hot water systems. In nature, veins within the human body act as valves and regulate the blood circulation. Heart valves even regulate the flow of blood in the chambers of the heart and maintain the right pumping action.

Valves can be operated in several ways. For instance, they could be operated either by a pedal, a lever or a handle. Valves could be driven by changes in flow, temperature or pressure or they could be automatic. These changes can act upon a piston or a diaphragm which in turn activates the valve. Various common examples of this particular kind of valve are found on boilers or safety valves fitted to hot water systems.

Valves are utilized in several complex control systems which may need an automatic control which is based on external input. Regulating the flow through the pipe to a changing set point is an example. These situations generally require an actuator. An actuator will stroke the valve depending on its input and set-up, which allows the valve to be places accurately while allowing control over different needs.
